Building Inspections and Permits/Code Enforcement

The Building Inspection Department provides public safety by enforcing municipal and state regulations and codes relative to the construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving, demolition, conversion, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area, and maintenance of all buildings or structures in the city. The City of Wilmer has adopted the following building and safety codes:
  • 2003 International Building Code
  • 2006 International Fire Code
  • 2002 National Electrical Code
  • 2003 International Plumbing Code
  • 2003 International Mechanical Code
  • 2003 Energy Conservation Code
  • 2006 International Property Maintenance Code
  • 2003 International Residential Code for one and two family dwellings
In order to improve the appearance of our neighborhoods and sustain property values, the city also enforces a number of environmental codes. The Code Enforcement Officer will work with and assist residents in abating nuisances like high grass, inoperable vehicles, illegal signage, junk/debris/trash, and illegal dumping.
